It turned out to be an interesting test. They were a couple of minutes late getting started on 30 meters but the signal was fairly good, about S5 on the wire antenna. There were periods of noise and some QSB but overall not a bad signal. But for 100 kilowatts coming out of Nashville you would expect it to be strong.

They switched to 60 meters at 4PM and were inaudible here until nearly 5PM when they started to come in a bit. As the sun sank behind the hills the audio was almost Q5 but not always. It never did move the meter on the K3 more than an S3. The signal reports from other countries in QST should be interesting - J

Kits have really changed too. I built a little single band SDR radio a couple of years ago to get my feet wet with surface mount components (SMDs) It was a lot of soldering with a real fine tip soldering iron and a really strong magnifying glass. But it worked just like it was supposed to.

The Elecraft I'm working on now has zero soldering! Everything plugs together like building a computer. It's a lot of work but an extremely nice kit!

Way to go Brittany. I got a kick out of reading the comments after the you tube video. "Don't go into this MOS, you won't get promoted!" But it was written by a spec-4. I heard exactly the same comments when I was there fifty years ago. It was BS then and it's BS now. Congratulations!

Pretty cool Mark! Now with a dial-in to one of the voter links the smart-phone becomes a remote base. Should be a piece of cake with the echolink interface.

Thanks for doing that.
